About The OrdinanceEnergy Conservation Audit and Disclosure Ordinance is a part of Austin Climate Protection Plan. It will contribute towards the goal of offsetting 800 megawatts of peak energy demand and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 365,000 metric tons by 2020.
Buildings ImpactedAs per the Ordinance passed by the Austin city council, all the Commercial buildings with area greater than 10,000 square feet must calculate the energy use rating using an audit or rating system approved by the director.Residential buildings with 4 or fewer dwellings and property age 10 years or older are required to have an energy audit before sale.Multi-family buildings with 5 or more dwellings are required to have an energy audit every 10 years.
DeadlinesuicAll the commercial buildings covered by the ordinance as per the above-mentioned criteria must provide the data by June 1 of every year.
PenaltyNon-compliance with Energy Conservation Audit and Disclosure is a Class C misdemeanor and can result in fines from $500 to $2,000.
